Bhubaneswar, July 17: Paving way for the resumption of private bus services across Odisha, a meeting between bus owners’ association and State Transport Minister concluded with a positive note on Saturday.
Since the State Government has assured to fulfill most of our demands, all 62 regional bus associations will be asked to restart the plying of buses from July 19, said State Private Bus Owners’ Association Secretary Debendra Sahu while speaking on the sidelines of the meeting.
While the Odisha Government announced for normalisation of bus services from July 16 after remaining suspended for weeks, the bus owners hesitated to comply with it by citing several causes like, waving of MV Tax, Insurance, EMI repayment and financial assistance needed for repairing.
Informing on the outcome of the meeting between State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera and the representative of the association, Sahu added that they have got an assurance for waiver of taxes for two more months August and September 2021.
Similarly, the State Finance Secretary who also remained present during the meeting has assured the bus owners to take action against the private financers for exerting pressure on them to repay the loans.
A decision has also been taken on the part of the government to urge the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to extend loan EMI repayment terms by that preventing bus owners from being placed under defaulters’ list.
