Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: The State Government will set up a new 100-seated medical college at Phulbani in Kandhamal district.
A proposal to this effect was approved at a State Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday. The Cabinet approved as many as 12 proposals.
The Cabinet also approved another proposal of the Health and Family Welfare Department for up-gradating the Koraput medical college to a 650-seat hospital.
A total of Rs 680 crore will be spent for the two projects, which have been targeted to be completed in 3 years, said Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy.
Besides, the Cabinet also approved a Rural Piped Drinking Water Supply Project under one package to provide drinking water in Bargarh district out of BASUDHA (RIDF) funding. The project will help residents of 43 gram panchayats of two blocks in the district. The project is targeted to be completed in two years.
The Cabinet also resolved to move the Union Government again for insisting implementation of recommendations of MS Swaminathan Committee regarding minimu support price of (MSP) of all crops for doubling farmers' income.
