Puri, Apr 1: In what indicates weak security system, miscreants allegedly looted away huge amount of cash and gold and silver ornaments from the Lord Shree Jagannath’s Mausi Maa Temple at Balagandi along the Badadanda (Grand Road) here last night.
The miscreants looted away valuables by breaking open almirah and hundi (donation box) kept in the Jagamohan of the temple, according to reports.
Though cost of gold and silver ornaments has not been assessed, it is learnt that cash of about Rs 30,000 has been stolen away from the donation box.
The matter came to the fore early in the morning when the priest came to open gate and conduct puja. He saw the gate, almirah and the donation box broken.
Acting on his complaint, the Kumbharapada police have rushed to the spot and started investigation.
