Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: After developmental programmes undertaken for Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, the State Government on Wednesday announced a renovation programme for Maa Samaleswari Temple, Sambalpur.
The project, which comes under the 5T programme of the Government, is titled Samaleswari Temple Area Management & Local Economy Initiatives (SAMALEI). The project will have a budgetary allocation of Rs 200 crore in the 2021-22 fiscal. Beatification work of Maa Samaleshwari Temple and programmes for economic development of locals will be undertaken. Besides, all facilities will be created to give a special experience to devotees and tourists, said a release from Chief Minister’s Office.
Developmental works will be undertaken on a total of 108 acres of land.
The entire area of 12 acres of land, where the 16th Century temple stnds, will be developed with construction of four historic gates on four sides. Queue system for devotees, Bhog Mandap and rest rooms for priests will come up, informed the release. Gopalji Math will be conserved.
A 30-metre-long footpath will be constructed from the Mahanadi Ghat to the goddess’ temple. A 30-metre deck will be erected in such a way that the Mahanadi and the temple will be visible to devotees.
A 22-acre lake will be renovated, while the riverbank will be developed and the railway lines will be widened, said the release.
