“Death of Mamita Meher was a very sad and unfortunate incident and we are all deeply anguished and pained by this heinous crime; I reiterate that My Government is fully committed to ensure justice to Mamita Meher and her family,” said the Chief Minister who attended the House proceedings of the winter session through video conference.
“It (Mamita Meher murder case) is a sensitive matter and it is being politicised; action will be taken against the culprit," added the Chief Minister, who also heads the Home Ministry.
Patnaik noted that police have been directed to probe the matter without fear & favour and exemplary action will be taken against the culprit.
The Chief Minister also appealed the members of the Opposition parties to cooperate in the smooth functioning of the House for the larger interest of the people across the State.
Earlier in the day, Opposition BJP and Congress members continued to create uproar in the Assembly for the third day in a row over Mamita Meher murder case.
As soon as the House assembled for the day at 10.30 am, BJP members rushed to the well holding banners and raised slogans demanding removal of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged close relation with the prime accused in the murder case. The BJP legislators also demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Congress members too joined the principal opposition party members. Holding posters and banners, the Congress MLAs started shouting slogans over the same demand.
Unable to transact any business, Speaker S N Patro adjourned the House till 4 pm.
Mamita was allegedly strangled to death by Govind Sahu, a close aide of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra, on October 8.
