Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: The Department of Higher Education in Odisha is considering to reopen the colleges and higher education institutes across the State from January 2021, an official said on Thursday.
However, a final decision in this regard will be taken by the State government after reviewing all aspects including the COVID-19 situation, Higher Education Department Secretary Saswat Mishra said.
Speaking to media here, Mishra said, “We are hopeful that colleges across the State will reopen from the New Year. However, semester examinations of UG and PG students are likely to be postponed.
“Examinations cannot be conducted only on the basis of online classes as many students may not have understood the subjects properly. And, the fail percentage may rise,” he added.
The exams will be held after conduct of physical mode of teaching for at least 70 to 80 days, he further said.
The colleges and higher education institutes have remained closed since March this year in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic.
