Bhubaneswar, Mar 18: Congress MLAs led by Leader of the Congress Legislature Party Narasingha Mishra staged dharna inside the Odisha Assembly premises here on Tuesday protesting against the alleged mandi irregularities across the State and continuous stalemate in the proceedings of the House.
The MLAs staged the protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue inside the Assembly premises on the sixth day of the second part of the Budget session.
Apart from Mishra, Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim among other MLAs participated in the protest.
CPI-M MLA Laxman Munda also took part in the dharna.
The Congress and CPI-M MLAs also raised slogans against the State Government over the alleged irregularities in procurement of paddy in the State.
Notably, no business could be transacted in the Assembly for the sixth consecutive day of the second part of the Budget session because of the ruckus from the treasury bench and the opposition.
The opposition BJP and Congress members demanded immediate procurement of paddy from all the farmers of the State.
On the other hand, BJD legislators sought an apology from BJP MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi who attempted suicide by consuming sanitiser in the House on Friday.
