Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: The Congress Party Odisha unit is observing a bandh from 7 am to 1 pm across the State today protesting frequent fuel price hike in the country.
As a part of the bandh Congress workers led by senior leader of the party Suresh Kumar Routray took part in a rail roko at Bhubaneswar railway station starting in the morning.
While informing media about the bandh observation Routray claimed that the bandh observation is in the public interest and people's support to it in the capital city are spontaneous.
“Fuel price in the State as well as the country has gone up unprecedentedly in the recent times. We protest it through this bandh. However, the protest by Congress will remain peaceful. We are not intercepting ambulance, milk van, hearse and marriage vehicles. Our volunteers are ready to help people if they fell in any kind of inconvenience during the bandh observation today,” said Routray.
Notably, earlier on Sunday OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik had assured that the February 15 bandh by Congress will remain peaceful.
However, in view of the bandh the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has stopped plying of ‘Mo Bus’ till 1 pm in the Twin City.
Similarly, private buses will also remain off road during the bandh observation today from 6 am to 1 pm. The service will be restored after 1 pm, said General Secretary of the State bus owners' association, Barada Prasanna Acharya yesterday maintaining that the decision has been taken for safety and security of the passengers and is in larger public interest.
