As per reports, Trilochan Purohit, a resident of Jharbahali village under Ulunda police station limits in the district, tried to end his life by setting himself on fire inside the Binka police station today over alleged non-payment of dues towards a road construction work that he undertook around 10 years ago.
The police personnel however overpowered Purohit and rescued him.
Speaking to media persons, the contractor alleged that the then junior engineer (JE) of Ulunda block, Bijay Purty, has not cleared his pending bill of Rs 87,000 for carrying out a road construction work at Jharbahali village in 2011-2012. Purty presently posted in Binka block in the district.
Later, Purohit lodged a complaint against Purty with the Binka police station in the connection.
Based on the complaint, the JE and contactor were called to the police station today.
However, the contractor poured kerosene on him and tried to set himself fire at the police station.
Meanwhile, Binka police detained Purohit and started a probe into the matter.
