Bhubaneswar, Apr 20: Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar Director Ajay Parida on Tuesday asserted that the number of Covid positive cases is increasing in Odisha due to surges in neighbouring States, particularly Chhattisgarh.
“Covid infection is in upward trend in our neighbouring State. People coming from these States are adding to the number of Covid positive cases in Odisha. Particularly, rise in infection in Chhattisgarh is enhancing Covid cases in Odisha,” he said.
Parida also said that another reason behind rise in positive cases is people not adhering to Covid guidelines.
He, however, said Odisha doesn’t have witnessed the mutation strain being seen in Punjab and Maharashtra. The strain in Odisha can be known after jenome sequences, he said.
Parida said the strain seen in Brazil and South Africa has not been marked in Odisha. Cases in Odisha constitute 3 to 4% of UK and Double Strain.
He said Covid cases are on the rise across the county. It can’t be said when the infection will reach the pick and then come down.
