Bhadrak, Feb 13: Ashwini Padhi, a pharmacist, who along with hundreds of pharmacists, was at the forefront in the fight against Covid 19, was seen moving from shop to shop with a begging bowl in hand in Charampa Bazaar in Bhadrak district today as a mark of protest against ouster of paramedical pharmacists from the job by the State Government.
“I and many others had been appointed to serve Covid patients in different medicals in the State. Even as we had appointed for three months, the Government employed us in the job for three months till corona situation came under control. Then the Government drove away us,” said Padhi.
Padhi said has started begging to meet his family’s day-to-day expenditure. “The Government has betrayed up. There is no option left for me. I have decided to live on alms,” said he.
Niladri Prasad Yadab, a shop owner, expressed unhappiness over the matter. “We have not seen people begging after being ousted from Government job for the last 40 years. The paramedic pharmacists risked their and their family members’ lives while serving Covid patients. The Covid situation came under control in the State due to their efforts. The Government should resettle,” said Yadab.
