Puri, Apr 26: In the wake of rising covid-19 cases, the Puri district administration has imposed restrictions on the cremation of bodies from outside the district at the Swargadwar, the 'divine' crematorium, here in Odisha starting from today, officials said on Monday.
Besides, people from outside the district will not be allowed to perform the immersion of ashes in Mahodadhi seashore in the holy town, they added.
The restriction was imposed after the district as well as the neigbouring districts reported a spike in covid-19 cases.
In separate development, the Shree Jagannath Temple here has been closed for ‘public darshan’ till May 15 in view of the rising Covid-19 cases over the last few days.
However, all the daily rituals will continue with the help of servitors and temple officials, informed the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA),
Puri district reported 145 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours. In the last 7 days, around 50 people including some servitors of the Srimandir who had gone to Kumbh Mela in Haridwar have tested positive for Covid-19.
