Bhubaneswar, Jun 20: As the day of much-awaited Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is approaching fast, the demand for holding the festival at different temples across the State has mounted in equal pace.
Sevayats of Jagannath temples at Kendrapara, Nilgiri, Keonjhar, Baripada, Ranapur, Koraput and Subarnapur have demanded that Rath Yatra be allowed at their places too.
“If Rath Yatra can be held in Puri in strict adherence to Covid safety protocols and without participation of devotees, why the festival of the Lord Jagannath can’t be held at our places in the same manner,” wanted to know the servitors.
They participated and kept their views at the "Maha Panchayat" programme of the Argus News channel.
“The State Government lacks willing power. Had it been a vote garner source, the State Government must have given priority,” contended many servitors.
Many of them even threatened to take to the streets if the Government doesn’t allow them to conduct Rath Yatra.
Srinath Sahoo, a health expert, said Rath Yatra can be held safely amid Covid safety protocols. “Rath Yatra was held at Puri Shreemandir, Jajpur Biraja Temple and Lingaraj Temple at Bhuabnewar with participation of minimum number of servitors and without devotees. Rath Yatra can be held at other places but amid strict adherence to Covid protocols. Possible least number of Servitors with negative Covid certificates can conduct Rath Yatra safely,” he opined.
He said the Rath Yatras held at Puri, Jajpur and Bhubaneswar haven’t caused spread of the virus.
