Cuttack, Feb 23: The Odisha police on Tuesday appealed people not to call an unknown number in order to update the ‘know your customer’ (KYC) guidelines from any service provider.
The police appealed the people not to fall in the trap of the fraudsters.
“Be careful! Do not call an unknown number to update your KYC. Service providers do not recommend calling any such number. Therefore, ignore all incoming SMS related to the update of KYC,” Odisha Police tweeted in Odia.
The appeal came after several cases of cyber crimes were reported in the State in last few days.
Most prominent one was reported from Cuttack city on Feb 18 when a retired doctor was duped of Rs 77 lakh from his SBI account.
Sanatan Mohanty, a retired doctor living in CDA Sector-7 area of Cuttack, was reportedly duped of Rs 77 lakh from his SBI account by cyber criminals.
The doctor was allegedly cheated by cyber criminals on the pretext of activating the SIM card of his mobile phone.
