The Khandagiri police and the special squad swung to nab Chakara and his six associates after they came to know from a reliable source that hey had assembled on the school field then. As the police team approached, Chakara and others hurled bombs and opened fire at them. Soon, the police retaliated by opening fire.
In the incident, Chakara was severely injured but others managed to escape in bikes taking advantages of darkness.
Chakara has been hospitalised and further investigations are on, said police.
