Acting upon a tip-off Bhanjanagar Police raided a house located near the Bypass Chhak near College Road in the morning. During search of the house, the cops came across several packets of duplicate ghee, coconut oil and sesame oil bearing labels of popular brands and seized those.
Raw materials used in manufacturing duplicate commodities along with pouches, empty packets, ghee tins, stove and weighing machine were also seized from the spot.
However, the owner of the manufacturing unit which ran inside a godown, managed to flee from the spot.
Notably between November 2020 and February this year several food adulteration units were busted in Odisha. On January 31, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police had seized 248 litres of adulterated ghee under the brand name Binayak Puja Vanaspati and 330 litre of rice bran and refined oil from CDA Sector-9 in Cuttack.
Similarly, a joint team of Airfield Police and Quick Action Team (QAT) had raided a duplicate ghee manufacturing factory at Kaibalya Nagar in Sundarpada area of Bhubaneswar on January 12 and seized huge amount of adulterated products and raw materials.
