The victim has been identified as Sabitri Moharana, wife of Gandharb Moharana of Sishua village under Korei block.
Jajpur, July 17: In an incident signifying the diminishing moral values in the society, an elderly woman was tied to a pole and beaten up mercilessly by her relatives over a property dispute in Salakana village under Korei block of Jajpur district on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Sabitri Moharana, wife of Gandharb Moharana of Sishua village under the same block.
As per the report, Gandharb who happens to be a resident of Sishua village had relocated to his roadside plot in Salakana village a few years back and living there by setting up a house. However, soon after Gandharb’s relocation his cousin Alekh Moharana started claiming the ownership of the land triggering a dispute between the duo.
On Saturday afternoon, in Gandharb’s absence, Alekh reached his home with 20 odd people and threatened the former’s son and daughter with sharp weapons. Later, the attackers ransacked the home and tied Sabitri to a pole to thrash mercilessly to settle the score.
The looters also decamped with cash and gold jewelleries from the spot, adds the report.
While Sabitri has sustained injuries in the attack and currently under treatment, arrest had been made by police in the case till the last report came in.
