Sambalpur, Feb 12: With no respite in sight from jumbo deaths in the State, an elephant calf was found dead from Redhakhol Forest Division on Friday.
As per the report, some locals who visited Bindhapur-Khasada Forest early came across the carcass of the jumbo post which the calf death came to light.
Officials from Nakatideula wildlife area rushed to the spot along with Veterinary team immediately and examined the carcass.
The calf was found aged around one year, said the officials.
While the cause of the death of the calf is not known, Forest Department officials are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the same.
Notably, cases of jumbo death have gone up in the State in the recent times. On January 1, a female elephant was found dead in a farmland in Ichhabati village under Rameshwar panchayat of Khordha district in a similar fashion.
Aged between 15-20 years the jumbo’s carcass seemed to be 1-2 days old at the time of discovery.
