As per the report, a herd comprising of at least 25 elephants of different age groups from Dhadel Forest sneaked into Patangpadar village under Biswanathpur Forest area late in the night and attacked the houses of Rupa Majhi, Sandha Majhi and Driku Majhi’s houses to destroy completely.
The village inhabited by 50 members of nine families witnessed a panic situation after the herd headed towards farmland and damaged vast stretch of paddy, finger millet, Koshila (leaf vegetable) and mustard crop.
Later by entering into the neighbouring Asuraguda village the herd destroyed one Dasarathi Majhi’s finger millet, Koshila (leaf vegetable) and green gram cultivation.
Getting intimated about the elephant incursion Forest Department team from Mushanala led by Chintamani Majhi reached the spot and took stock of the situation and made an estimation of the losses.
While the three victim families have been rendered homeless post the incident, locals have demanded suitable compensation for them from the district administration.
