Elephant terror has continuously been gripping Kandhamal-Kalahandi border areas like Jhiripani, Bhandarangi, Lankagada and Belghar. Approximately, 50 elephants were seen moving near Jhiripani village last night, according to source.
It has been seven to eight days elephants came to the area in search of food and water, leaving the villagers frightened.
In order to drive away the pachyderms, forest department of Belghar put into service a tracking squad in the area. The squad is trying to change the direction of elephants’ movement and disperse them into the deep jungle. They are trying their best to assure the villagers of all safety, said local Forest Range Officer Aruna Sahoo.
