According to information 35 idols belonging to different Puja committees had taken Bisarjan in temporary ponds at Puri Ghat in Cuttack by 8 pm.
The group fight had reported occurred between Jhanjirmangala Harijan Sahi and Kusunpur Sahi over immersion procession. They reportedly hurled stones at each other. Police were trying to pacify the situation.
Notably, temporary ponds have been dug on sand beds in Kathajodi in Cuttack and Kuakhai River in Bhubaneswar for immersion of idols.
Processions are also being held on special routes earlier declared by the Commissionerate police.
As many as 17 platoons of police force have been deployed in Bhubaneswar to ensure an incident-free immersion ritual. Three Additional DCPs are overseeing the processions.
In Cuttack where immersion is held amid much splendour, 55 platoons of police force have been deployed. Twenty quick response teams and many senior officers are guiding the processions which are likely to continue till tomorrow morning. As many as 44 aid posts have also been set up.
Apart from the twin cities, immersion of Devi Durga idols is also being conducted at Bhadrak, Kendrapara and other places in the State.
Some Puja Committees have decided to conduct “Bhashani” tomorrow.
