Keonjhar, Feb 13: Excise and Police department officials have been roughed up and attacked by liquor mafia and their supporters during a raid in Hirapashi village under Turumunga Police Station in Keonjhar district yesterday.
As per the report, getting a tip-off on the ongoing country liquor (Mahuli) preparation and trading in Hirapashi village, a joint team of Keonjhar Excise unit officials and police had raided a location last evening.
While the officials seized huge cache of fermented liquour and raw materials used in preparing the same initially during the raid, the mafia and their supporters overpowered them at a later stage.
They allegedly snatched away the mobile phones and cameras used by the officials also and deleted the photographs taken on the spot. As the accused including over hundreds of men and women started chasing and attacking the officials, they ran for lives leaving the seized items behind.
Later, a case has been lodged at Turumunga Police Station in connection with the attack and further investigation is underway.
