Balasore, Jan 4: Residents of a village in Odisha's Balasore district ostracised a family and forced them to leave the village over suspicion of practising sorcery.
The incident occurred in Mahishamunda village under Sri Rampur panchayat in Baliapal block of the district.
The victims have been identified as Lusku Tudu, his wife Rukmani Tudu and their minor son.
Currently they are reportedly taking shelter underneath a culvert in a nearby village.
As per reports, two sons of Lusku’s elder brother died recently. The deceased’s family members with the help of the village-head approached a witch-doctor (tatnrik) to know the reason behind the death of the two boys.
The witch-doctor reportedly branded Rukmani as a witch and said the villagers that siblings lost their lives due to her practice of sorcery.
Subsequently, Lusku and Rukmani were beaten black and blue by the villagers. Later, the couple and their minor son were forced to leave the village.
So far, no complaint has been lodged in the local police station in this connection, a villager said.
