According to information, the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) had planned to open outlets, titled “Beach Snacks” to sell licenced liquor to tourist at the golden beach here. The OTDC had also initiated steps to open such outlets.
However, conscious people and various organisations opposed the move alleging pollution and criminal activities will happen along the beach. About 25 social organisations had also filed complaint with the district Collector. The Collector had assured them that he would take up the matter with the Government and whatever will be good to uphold the heritage aspect of the city will be done.
Today, a team of the BJP Yuva Morcha had also gone to the Collector to file a complaint. The Collector, however, informed that the decision of opening liquor outlets and bars has been done away with.
