Angul, Feb 18: Properties worth lakhs of rupees, including hard cash of Rs 40,000, were burnt to ashes and two persons sustained critical injuries as a major fire engulfed three houses in Mahara Sahi of Khamar village under Angul district’s Chhendipada police station this morning.
The houses, which were burnt in fire mishap, belonged to Krushna Mahara, Kapila Mahara and Sunil Mahara of the village. Krushna had kept Rs 40,000 for her daughter’s marriage. The hard cash along with furniture, household articles and crops were burnt. Each of them suffered losses of lakhs of rupees due to the fire.
The affected family members are now staying in open sky.
While the reason behind spread of the fire was yet to be known, fire brigades, on being informed, rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
However, two villagers, Sunil Mahara and Saroj Mahara, sustained serious burn injuries in the mishap and were admitted to the Chhendipada hospital.
