As per the report, one Niranjan Das of the village went for an inspection of his cattle-shed in the wee hours and found the sheep dead. Deep nail indentations were seen on the neck and stomach parts of the carcasses, pointing at predator attack.
Getting intimated on the incident, Forest Department officials rushed to the spot and carried out primary investigation.
Notably, this is the third incident of sheep death in Niali in last one month. On April 6, at least four sheep were found dead in the cattle-shed of one Biranchi Das of the same village. In the same month earlier, at least six sheep were found in the shed of another local resident.
In all the cases the modus operandi of the predator remained the same.
