Bhubaneswar. Apr 27: Free Covid vaccination for 18-44 year age-group people is unlikely to begin on scheduled May 1 in Odisha because of possible delay in arrival of vaccines, both Covishield and Covaxin, apprehended Health and Family Welfare Department Director Bijay Panigrahy on Tuesday.
Speaking to mediapersons, Panigrahy said Covaxin, indigenously prepared by the Bharat Biotech, may reach Odisha by mid May but Covishield, manufactured by the Serum Institute of india, may not arrive in the State in May.
“Registration for Phase-3 vaccination will begin tomorrow. Eligible people can register names through CoWIN portal. However, they will not be given slot of vaccination appointment now. Slot of appointment will be given only after arrival of vaccines in the State,” said Panigrahy.
Panigrahy informed that the present stock of vaccines will end in two days. Vaccination was undertaken at 595 centres on Monday, he said.
It may be noted that all people in the 18-44 year age-group will be given Covid vaccine free of cost in the State. The Chief Minister announced this two days back. He had also informed that purchase orders had already been given to the two vaccine making companies by the State Government.
