Police arrested three persons and seized 100 kg of ganja from their possession near Nandapur in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday night.
Koraput, Jun 20: Police arrested three persons and seized huge quantity of ganja from their possession near Nandapur in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday night.
The accused have been identified as Samuel Genj of Pattingi, Surendra Mali of Nandapur and Prashant Khemundu of Jeypore in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, Nandapur police made a ‘nakabandi’ (blockade) near the Nandapur block office last night. Seeing the police blockade, a speeding car, which was coming from Padua area, made a U-turn from the spot.
Soon, the police personnel chased the car and recovered four packets of ganja, weighing around 100 kg, from the vehicle. They seized the contraband item and arrested three occupants of the vehicle.
Taking the advantage of the darkness, one of the prime accused identified as Abhi Khilo of Nandapur area managed to flee from the spot.
The approximate cost of the seized contraband would be around Rs 10 lakh, police said.
The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and investigation is underway to find out the locals involved in the crime, police added.
