Bhubaneswar, May 29: Good coordination between the Union Government and the Odisha Government has made cyclone management easy in the State, said SRC PK Jena in an exclusive interview with the Argus TV channel.
“The State Government has good coordination with all Ministries of the Union Government. For this, Officers are directly talking to concerned Ministries over phone and getting problems resolved within a few minutes. Everything is being solved over a phone call now. Cyclone management has also become an easy affair,” said the SRC during discussion in the “Amna Samna” programme of the Argus channel on Saturday evening.
Jena said the recent very severe cyclonic storm Yaas was managed and tackled successfully because of the coordination. He too contended that the Yaas management became more effective as the IMD and the NDRF are headed by Odia officers.
Jena, who is also Additional Chief Secretary to Odisha Government, said the Centre provides 2,139 crore to Odisha towards disaster management every year. More so, the Centre has also allowed the State to spend 50% of the fund in combating Covid 19 pandemic. By now, the State has already spent Rs 500 crore in Covid management, he said.
