Rourkela, Dec 23: At least four people including two loco pilots of a goods train were critically injured after the train derailed near Bimlagarh railway station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday night.
The injured were admitted to a hospital in Rourkela.
As per reports, the goods train, carrying iron ores in 59 wagons, was coming from Barasuan under K Balanga police limits in the district. The mishap occurred at around 7.30 PM when the train picked up 120 km per hour speed, sources said.
Some compartments got derailed and dashed to an electric pole along the track following which almost all wagons of the train went off the track in the mishap.
Two loco pilots, a goods guard and a labourer sustained severe injury in the mishap. They were rescued by GRP personnel and rushed to a nearby hospital. After getting preliminary treatment, they were shifted to a hospital in Rourkela as their condition was deteriorated.
A team of Railway officials reached the spot to take stock of the situation. It is learnt that, the derailment is supposed to have been caused by brake failure.
The accident affected the movement of trains on Rourkela-Bimlagarh route for several hours.
