Bhubaneswar, Jan 28: Almost one-and-a-half month after the Lokayukta ordered the State Vigilance to probe corruption charges levelled against him, Gopalpur MLA Pradip Panigrahy on Thursday moved the Orissa High Court challenging the decision.
The Lokayukta had issued direction for Vigilance investigation on December 11, 2020. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had referred corruption allegations against Panigrahy to the Lokayukta for investigation on December 7.
The Lokayukta had also asked the Vigilance Directorate to conduct a preliminary inquiry against Panigrahy and submit a report within two months.
On December 3, the CID Crime Branch of Odisha Police had arrested Panigrahi in connection with a case of cheating.
It is alleged that Panigrahy had collected money from some job aspiring youths on behalf of Akash Kumar Pathak, son of suspended IFS officer Abhay Pathak, by falsely promising jobs in a reputed company.
Panigrahi is now facing a case relating to impersonation, cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and other cyber offences.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had on November 4 expelled Panigrahi from the primary membership of the ruling BJD on charge of "anti-people activities" after the lawmaker was allegedly found cheating youths.
