Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: After a break of 10 months, family members can now meet prisoners in various jail premises across the State, taking all precautionary measures against Covid 19 pandemic.
The Home Department has written a letter to the DG, Prisons and DCS with this permission. The DG of Prisons had earlier made a request to the Government in this regard.
“In inviting reference to your letter dated February 9, 2021, I am directed to say that after careful consideration the Government have pleased to approve for restoration of Physical Mulakat in all fails of the State by observing due precautions and Covid appropriate behaviour,” read the order.
With the decision, intending family members can now meet imprisoned kin by observing Covid safety protocols. Earlier, the family members were being allowed to meet inmates through video calls via a system called e-Mulaquat, introduced in April last year by the State Government in the wake of Covid outbreak. However, it couldn’t work due to internet problem.
