Puri, Jan 28: Presenting a gloomy picture of government healthcare facility in the State, Rural Local Body (ULB) members organized a temporary health camp in Abhaymukhi panchayat of Puri district recently to compensate a defunct hospital.
The discouraging news came from the Indipur village where the lone Primary Health Centre is doing without a doctor for past couple of months. The staff crunch affected the health facility to such an extent that, it is considered as almost defunct by the locals.
In the absence of the doctors at the hospital, locals used to travel kilometers in case of an emergency for past few months, which was turning fatal at times, said a local.
Finally addressing the need of the denizens, several members of the Zilla Parishad joined hands to hold a free health camp at the Abhaymukhi Multi-Purpose flood shelter for the benefit of the needy.
Free health check up and medicine distribution was available under 12 speciality departments in the camp, which witnessed a good footfall.
Former MP Dr Prasanna Patsani, Puri Congress president Ajit Mangaraj and block chairman Prasanna Sahu remained present during the camp.
