The held accuseds have been identified as Bishnu Behera (32), T Satyanarayan Subudhi (40), P. Bala (32), K Trimal Prusti (32) and Sushant Pradhan (30), Debendra Kumar Tripathy (31), Premanand Pradhan (30) and Sanatan Mahakud (42).
As per the report, Malkangiri Police carried out a raid at Malkangiri bus stand and detained an auto-rickshaw carrying tobacco. During the document verification the driver namely Bishnu Behera and the owner of the gutkha bags T Satyanarayan Subudhi failed to produce the license and purchase bill for the goods in their possession and were taken into custody.
Based on the information provided by the duo during police interrogation, multiple raids were conducted in the city and six more persons were held.
“The seized gutkha packets, worth around Rs 13-14 lakh, were being sent from Jeypore and Berhampur to Malkangiri,” said police.
The held persons have been charged under various Sections of of COTPA Act 2003.
