Nabarangpur, Apr 20: The Nabarangpur Town police arrested two persons here in Odisha on Monday night for their alleged involvement in betting on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) T-20 matches.
The accused persons have been identified as G. Lokesh and G. Pradeep of Bhagabati Street in the district headquarter town here.
The police also recovered Rs 3.88 lakh in cash and three mobile phones and three gold chains from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off that some men were taking bets online for the IPL cricket matches at Bhagabati Street in the town, the police team raided the spot and arrested the accused duo.
During the interrogation, the duo confessed that they have been accepting bets from punters based on information provided through online cricket betting apps, a senior police officer said.
“The arrested persons have been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. They will be produce before the court today. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
