The held persons have been identified as Kalandi Das of Kadabaranga and three others of a neighbouring village.
Based on a tip-off on the ivory smuggling, a joint team of Forest Department and STF conducted out the raid on Kalandi’s home in Kadabaranga village last night and held a search but failed to find any smuggled item.
Later, three aides of Kalandi were arrested from a nearby house and confessed of possessing elephant tusk which they had stuffed in a sack to dump in a nearby forest.
The STF later seized the ivory from an abandoned place.
The held smugglers have been charged under the relevant Sections of Wildlife Protection Act.
Further investigation is underway into the matter.
