Bhubaneswar, Apr 11: More than two months after the alleged murder of Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, one more accused of the crime was arrested from the capital city of Odisha on Sunday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Amaresh Rout, a resident of Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar, said Jajpur Police.
Rout, an accomplice of the prime accused Rakesh Swain, was arrested from Sundarpada area in the city on charges of helping Rakesh in disposing Jharaphula’s body, said police adding that another accomplice of Rakesh, Sekhar is still on run.
The Kuakhia police in Jajpur district had recovered the body of 21-year-old Jharaphula near Mulapal on January 27 this year. Some local residents had spotted the body lying along the Mulapal-Dialakhandi road and informed the Kuakhia police.
The prime accused Rakesh was arrested earlier following the Call Details Record (CDR) and CCTV footage along the Mulapal-Dialakhandi road. Further investigation is underway, police said.
Jharaphula hailed from Marundeipasi village under Jashipur police station limits in Mayurbhanj district and was a +3 second year student of the varsity.
