--An elephant cub stranded in middle of Mahanadi at Mundali on Cuttack outskirts. Mother and other elephants go on rampage in nearby village.
Cuttack, Sep 24: Elephants have gone on rampage in Mundali area as an elephant cub, after getting parted from the herd, has stranded in the middle of Mahanadi River, which is in spate now.
According to information, a herd from Chandka jungle entered the Mundali village early this morning. However, a cub parted ways and went into the river mistakenly. The cub has been stranded in the middle of the river.
On the other hand, the mother-elephant and other members of the jumbo herd are searching for the cub. Raged over missing the cub, the pachyderms have gone on a rampage in the nearby village. They have reportedly destroyed crops and some houses in the area.
Though informed, forest officials were yet to reach the spot. Hundreds of people have gathered on the Mundali barrage to watch the elephant cub braving heavy current in the river water.
