The accused JE was caught red-handed while taking the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from a contractor in order to clear the bill of maintenance of the road work , said a Vigilance official.
The total bribe amount has been recovered from the possession of the accused official in front of the witness and seized.
Following the trap, the Vigilance official conducted simultaneous searches at various locations associated with Sahoo on charges of possessing of assets disproportionate to the known source of his income.
In this connection, Rourkela Vigilance police station registered a case against the accused JE under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation against accused Sahoo is in progress, the official added.
