--Non-arrest of accused self-proclaimed Baba Manas Das and his supporters in Bengunia murder and torture cases has dismayed victims and locals.
Khurda, Aug 29: Even as 26 days have passed since murder of Satyabrata Nayhak and the barbaric incident of merciless beating of a man and his son has come to the fore in the Begunia area in Khurda district for a couple of days now, non-arrest of culprits and the mastermind has dismayed victims and locals.
According to an FIR lodged at the Begunia police station, Magunai Nayak and his son Anant Nayak were beaten by supporters of self-proclaimed godman Manas Das as they didn’t join ‘Manababadi Sangathan’ founded by Das. The FIR filed by Anant alleged that people who beat them are supporters of Das, who is also a ruling BJD leader.
Besides, a case, registered earlier against Das under Section 302 pertaining to murder of Satyabrata Nayak on August 2, has also remained pending.
Meanwhile, Satyabrata’s son Basant Nayak has told the Argus News that supporters of Manas Das cremated the body of his uncle to which he is a witness. He was forced to light Das’ pyre. “We have filed a complaint against Manas Das. A case has been registered against him under Section 302. But it is not understood why police have not arrested him yet,” said Anand.
He further alleged that police have sat silent as Das is a BJD leader being protected by party higher-ups.
Videos of Rajya Sabha member Prasant Nanda touching godman Das’ feet and senior leader Prasanna Patsani praising him have also become viral.
“The fake godman (Das) collects ‘hapta’ (extortion once a week) from locals. As Maguni and Anant didn’t give hapta and join his Sangathan as members, his supporters beat him inhumanly, “said some villagers.
Videos show that ‘Gujuji’ Manas Das visits villagers in white dresses and black goggles, while his son Manoranjan Das, who is called ‘Sana Guruji’, accompanies him most of the time.
