Koraput, Dec 12: Another example of PC (percentage) taking practice in State Government offices has come to light with a woman junior engineer alleging that a BDO, under whom she works, is demanding 5% PC against each Government project and, when denied, torturing her mentally by misusing his official power.
Koraput district’s Laxmipur block Junior Engineer Suchismita Parija has made this allegation against BDO Dillip Kumar Patnaik.
After joining Laxmipur block as BDO about five months back, Patnaik along with Parija visited some project sites in different gram panchayats. On return, Patnaik called Parija to his office and enquired about staffs and office works from her. He then asked Parija to pay him 5% PC against each developmental works which were being undertaken in the block area. In response, Parija told Patnaik that collection of PC is not possible on her part. Irate over this, Patnaik changed his attitude towards her and started serving show-cause notices to her over various projects without valid reasons, alleged she.
In these five months, she not only approached the district Collector against the BDO, but also sent her complaints against Patnaik to the Parnchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department Principal Secretary and WODC Chief Administrator. She too communicated the matter to the local MLA, the SP, Laxmipur police station IIC and the Odisha Junior Engineers’ Association. The written complaints sent by her are with the Argus News.
Sources said both the BDO and the Junior Engineer went to the district Collector’s office today on being asked by the latter.
“The district administration and other high-ups should take action against the BDO soon. They should protect the woman engineer on a priority basis,” said locals.
