The accused has been identified as Amit Kumar Patra alias Jitu, a resident of Narayan Mandir Sahi under Bhanjanagar Police Station in Ganjam district.
Informing on the arrest Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash said, Amit had followed a unique modus operandi to steal the vehicles of prospective buyers on the OLX.
“On past couple of months we had received a number of cases of cheating on OLX in which the looter used to decamp with vehicles from sellers on the pretext of test drive. After examining the cases we found out that the modus operandi in each case was the same. The Special Squad under ACP Sanjeev Satpathy which carried out raids at several places in last 15 days finally succeeded in arresting him,” Das added.
Police also recovered as many as 11 looted vehicles from Amit which include 9 Honda Activas.
Amit had a number of vehicle loot cases pending against him at Nayapalli, Chandrasekharpur, Infocity, Bargarh and Tamando Police Stations in the Capital City. He had also been caught in a similar cheating case on OLX in 2019 when police has recovered 17 looted vehicles from his possession.
In the wake of the arrest of the looter, the Commissionerate Police has yet again cautioned people against using the online market place and told them to check details of the buyers or sellers thoroughly before striking a deal.
