The Meteorological Centre said that the system is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours and move westnorthwestwards across Odisha.
Under its influence, several places in Odisha are likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall during next few days.
In its latest weather forecast, the IMD issued a red weather warning for nine districts till tomorrow morning.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places very likely to occur over the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nayagarh, Subarnapur, Khordha, Puri and Jagatsinghpur from 8.30 am of Friday to 8.30 am of Saturday,” said the latest bulletin.
The IMD also issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the districts of Ganjam, Cuttack, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Kendrapara till 8.30 am of Saturday. It also issued a yellow weather warning for the rest districts of the State during the period.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea areas along and off Odisha coast till June 14.
