The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Guru, a resident of Patikarpada in Binika town.
The incident reportedly took place last night when Guru was on his way to home after work from a rice mill in Bisaplli.
Locals rescued Guru in a critical condition and rushed him to a hospital in Binika where doctors declared him dead on arrival, sources said.
Soon after the incident, locals staged a road blockade near the hospital demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Following which, vehicular movement between Binika and Sonepur was disrupted for few hours.
On being informed, Binika Police reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
“A case of causing death by negligence as well as rash driving has been registered and efforts were on to trace the offending vehicle and arrest its driver,” a Police officer said.
