Khordha, Jan 4: A man, who was reportedly duped of Rs 16.32 lakh to online fraud, attempted self-immolation in front of Khordha Collectorate here in Odisha on Monday, seeking justice.
The man, identified as Brajabandhu Sahu of Bankoi village under Bolagada police limits in the district, tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on him.
However, alert policemen who were present there prevented him from the self-immolation and took him to the local police station.
As per to reports, Sahu runs a timber depot in Bolagada. He was defrauded of 16.32 lakh while purchasing timber wood online from a foreign based company in August 2019.
Later Sahu had lodged a complaint in the cyber crime police station in Cuttack and approached the office of Superintended of Police, Khordha and Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in the State capital in this connection but no action has been taken into the matter so far, he alleged.
Dejected, Sahu decided to end his life in front of the Collectorate seeking justice.
“We are investigating the sequence of events leading to his attempt to self immolation,” a senior official said.
