Das, born at Shankhari village under Bhograi block in Balasore district, had been staying at Aurobindo Ashram in Puducherry Ashram for long. He had been ailing for some time and undergoing treatment at the Ashram Hospital. He breathed his last at around 8 pm on Tuesday. He was 87.
Das was novelist, poet, columnist, fiction and travel writer and a bold commentator on social issues. He was famed in both Odia and English literature.
Earlier, Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had condoled his demise. They all termed his passing away as great loss to the fields of Odia and English literature,
