Bhubaneswar, Mar 18: As promised to Opposition BJPO members by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister will make a statement detailing the State Government’s stance on issues of Mandi management and paddy procurement in the House tomorrow.
A decision to this effect was taken at an all-party meeting chaired by Speaker SN Patro during afternoons hours on Friday. According to the decision Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain will give a detailed report in the House at 11.30 am on Friday.
It was decided that the ruling party would not raise the issue of suicide attempt made by the BJP Deogarh MLA Subash Panigrahi. Now, the Privilege Committee will look into the matter and submit a report to the Speaker. Until today, the BJD members had been demanding an apology from Panigrahy for his suicide bid on March 12.
It may be noted that the BJP MLAs had earlier in the day undertaken “Search for CM” drive and marched to Chief Minister’s residence Naveen Niwas. While they staged a dharna there, the Chief Minister came in person and invited them to his house. They held discussion on the paddy procurembent and mandi issues. Later Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik said that the CM promised them to resolve the matter through all-party meeting chaired by the Speaker.
On the other hand, Congress members had staged a dharna at the Mahatma Gandhi stature insisting on their demand of lifting of faulty token system and procuring paddy from all intending farmers by March 31.
Due to protests, the House has witnessed stalemate for the consecutive sixth day.
With today’s decision, it is expected that the House will function smoothly from tomorrow onwards.
