Rourkela, Jan 4: In a shocking tale of police excess, a minor boy has been allegedly subjected to third degree torture and given electric shocks by cops over a mobile theft case in the Steel City.
As per the report, Udit Nagar Police picked up the victim identified as a resident of Timber Colony on December 26 on the charge of stealing a mobile phone. Later, the boy was thrashed mercilessly to confess to the crime, which he says he had never committed.
He was detained at the police station unlawfully for two days and forced to admit that he had stolen a mobile phone. When he refused and said he had got the same from the roadside, the cops gave him electric shock and snatched another phone possessed by him, said the victim’s grandmother.
The boy who stays with his grandmother for last few years after the death of his parents is sick now post police’s torture.
“Police didn’t return the mobile phone of my grandson even after we showed the ownership documents. They have also threatening to arrest him again in case we disclose the matter to others,” added the victim’s grandmother.
