The incident took place at the petrol pump owned by Pramod Banka of Khetrajpur at around 7.30 am in the morning soon after it opened for business.
A group of youth from Thelkopada area led by one Raju reached the pump and demanded Rs 5,000 extortion money from an oil tanker which had just parked there to unload petrol.
“As the driver of the tanker refused to pay Rs 5,000 the miscreants threatened him of dire consequences. One of them even tried to set the tanker afire but the lit match thrown by him missed the tanker averting a major mishap,” said Banka.
Later, the petrol pump staff and some locals nabbed the miscreants and called up Town Police to handover them.
Banka has demanded deployment of police personnel at his pump claiming that such type of incident have grown in the recent times and smooth function of the business has become a hard task.
