Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: Throwing an open challenge to police yet again, unidentified miscreants have snatched away gold necklace from an elderly woman near Jharpada Jail in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The snatching took place in the early morning today while the victim identified as Manorama Sahu was on morning walk. She was targeted on the jail front lane right before the Shyama Apartment.
“I was walking along the jail front road when at least three bike-borne looters neared me and put a billhook on my neck asking me to hand them over my gold necklace. As I declined, they attacked and pushed me to the ground and snatched away the jewellery. The incident took place at around 7 am,” said the victim.
The woman has sustained minor injuries in the scuffle with the looters.
Getting intimated on the incident, the Commissionerate Police has reached the spot for investigation. CCTV footages available with the nearby buildings and shops are being examined to trace the looters.
Notably, chain snatching incidents are on a rise in the Capital City in past few years. On July 26 last year, miscreants had even looted gold jewellery from a woman DSP at gunpoint under Kharavelanagar Police Station. A week earlier to the incident, police had arrested two chain snatchers in the city and recovered eight gold chains from them.
